The weekend storms swept across the region bringing flood damage

With the highest rainfall being recorded between 18:00 and 19:00 on Saturday evening, the heavy rains brought down more than 100 mm of rain.

Tragedy struck all along the Cote d'Azur this weekend as flooding caused severe damage to the towns of Nice and Cannes and took the lives of at least 20 people.

The damage was not isolated to the coastal areas though and Provence saw two fronts sweep across the region. 104 mm of rain fell in Carpentras, with 96 mm in Avignon, with the storm moving from west to east.

Further south saw 122 mm of rain fall in Murs and 105 mm in Saint-Christol with the waters in the Gulf of Lion being particularly choppy and stormy on Saturday morning.

Eventually the storms dissipated in Haute-Provence and although very heavy, the rainfalls have not beaten previous records, and thankfully have not created the kind of tragic events that we have see along the French Riviera.
