Provence shoots for the Stars, Michelin Guide 2016

Michelin stars are released into the gastronomic world

featured in News & reviews Author Pam Williamson, Provence Editor Updated

The end of January is a tense time for restaurants, especially those with Michelin stars or those hoping to gain one of those much sought after stars.

Yesterday, Michelin published their list of 2016 Michelin Guide restaurants, which includes those restaurants not only with one, two or three stars, but also those restaurants that Michelin has recommended or singled out as 'Bib Gourmand'.

Happily for the gourmets, foodies and tourists of Provence, the area has gained two more Michelin star restaurants, the Peir Restaurant in the luxury hotel, La Bastide de Gordes, in the Vaucluse and Le Cloître in Forcalquier. Certainly reason for celebration and I am sure the champagne and truffle sauces will be flowing for weeks to come!

L'Atelier de Jean-Luc Rabanel retains its 2 star Michelin rating and remains one of the best restaurants in the wonderfully historical city of Arles. As does the restaurant of the luxury hotel L'Oustau de Baumaniere in Les Baux de Provence, with its traditional cuisine and rustic country setting. Chef Edouard Loubet keeps his 2 stars in 2016, and continues to offer foodies a wonderful retreat at the Domaine de Capelongue in Bonnieux.

There of course many, many restaurants with 1 Michelin star, including the following:

Le Saint Esteve Restaurant in Le Tholonet near Aix-en-Provence.

L'esprit de la Violette in Aix-en-Provence

Chez Bruno in Lorgues

Le Phebus Restaurant under chef Xavier Mathieu, in Joucas, between Gordes and Roussillon

La Bonne Etape in the stunning setting of Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban

In the Luberon countryside Les Bories restaurant in Les Bories Spa Hotel

The popular Christian Etienne restaurant in the heart of the historical city of Avignon

Le Vivier restaurant in L'Isle sur le Sorgue

Auberge la Feniere Restaurant, Cadenet

To be honest we could go on forever listing the amazing selection of Michelin star restaurants across the Provence region of France - but for now we're going to stop there.
