The much anticipated route for the 100th edition of the Tour de France has been announced and Provence is set to play host to a large part of the race. For the first time ever, The Tour will start in Corsica on June 29th 2013 and finishes just over 3 weeks later in Paris on the 21st of July 2013.
Current Tour champion Bradley Wiggins and the other riders will make their way through Provence, passing through Nice, Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Vaison, Gap and numerous other Provencal towns and cities. Nice will host the 25km team trial on the 2nd of July and Marseille will host the finish to the 219km Stage 5 from Cannes on the 3rd of July. Stage 15 on the 14th of July will see riders take on the legendary climb of Mont Ventoux before a much needed rest day on the 15th. The race then kicks off again on the 16th of July when Gap will play host to the end of Stage 16 and the start of Stage 18. Stage 18 on the 18th of July is set to be one of the toughest mountain stages requiring riders to climb the notoriously tough l'Alpe d'Huez, not once but twice!
