Calisson Museum, Aix-en-Provence

Take a visit to the place where they make Provence's most famous confectionery - Calissons

featured in Sights & sites

Located not far from Aix centre, this museum and shop explains a little about the history of how this unusual sweet is made.

Calissons are lozenge shaped and made from a fruit paste with a melon flavour, topped with royal icing.

Videos, display cases, sights and smells will tantalise your taste buds on a visit here and you can also make your own batch of sweets at the end of your visit.

Visitor comments

  • "The museum is actually very informative, even though, as mentioned by another reviewer, the English version of the video presentation was not working (February 2016). It took me a while to figure out how to do the interactive calisson production game, but it was worthwhile because I got to taste my first calisson ever when I finally succeeded. The shop is well appointed and has some really nice products to bring back to mystify and/or delight people who have never heard of calissons. We had a very pleasant and enjoyable time at the Confiserie du Roy Rene!" - Trip Advisor
  • “A fun museum and local bus trip” - Trip Advisor
  • "A great place to visit in the area. A must see. gift ideas for family and friends. An acquired taste. I love these yummy candies." - Trip Advisor
