Located in the heart of the EcoQuartier Beaulieu, Lake Monteux is an open every day of the year. Ideal for the whole family, this area offers a multitude of activities.

The facilities and activities that are open throughout the year are free. Including walking around to explore the 38 hectares of landscaped park, the picnic area, the fitness area at the edge of the Lake, the fitness trail that links the city to the lake and certified course fishing.

There are additional activities avaiable during the summer season at a small cost, including swimming in the licensed area, a private beach with deck space, pedal boat rentals and rental of canoes.

2. Canoe Evasion, near Isle sur la Sorgue

This company offers a 2 hour river descent from Isle sur la Sorgue to Fontain de Vaucluse in canoes.

15 minutes before your departure time you're given all the equipment you need including a life jacket and waterproof container for your belongings. A guide will talk you through the safety aspects and show you the river route you're about to take.

On the descent, you're accompanied by a guide to show you the correct route and answer any questions you might have. There is a swim break part way through the trip. A bus brings you back to the start point at the end of the trip.

They open daily from 3rd weekend of April to the end of September. In July and August departures are every 30 minutes from 09:30 until 11:30 and 13:30 until 16:30. In April, May, June and September departures are by reservation only.

Adults 20 euros, children 10 euros. Group prices are also available.

Reservations obligatory and should only be made by phone.

Verdon Canoe, Gorges du Verdon

3. Verdon Canoe, Gorges du Verdon

Explore the beautiful Gorges du Verdon by paddling down the river in canoes or kayaks. A fun activity for everyone to explore the beautiful Gorges du Verdon and paddle on the beautiful blue water.

You can also combine a walk with a canoe trip where there are many routes to choose from.

From 90 minutes upwards, you can visit the Gorges with canoe.

AFDA Canoe & Kayak, Lauris

4. AFDA Canoe & Kayak, Lauris

This company offers two different types of excursions by kayak or canoe for either an hour and 15 minutes or 3 hours.

The shorter of the two trips takes you 8 kilometres down river from Lauris and the longer trip is 18 kilometres.

Boats or canoes can be rented for 2-3 people or there are kayaks for the more experienced.

Life jackets and waterproof containers for your belongings are provided.

Prices range from 20-35 euros per adult. Group rates are also available.

Raille Lake Watersports, Apt

7. Raille Lake Watersports

Just to the north of Apt lies the Plan d'Eau de la Raille. You can practice all sorts of watersports here, with a sailing & windsurfing school. All equipment is available to rent - dinghies, windsurfs, pedal boats and kayaks.

The sailing centre is open from April to late November. There are also tennis courts, a skate park, playgrounds & picnic tables - swimming is not allowed in the lake.

9. Goud' Canoe, La Roque sur Ceze

The Ceze is a calm river and accessible for all. Along the trip you’ll find enough spots and beaches where you’ll be able to get out of your boat to eat, sunbathe or swim.

There are various options available for short trips of around an hour to two, up to a two-day trip. Some of the trips are only available during certain months and will be run according to water levels. For example, the multi-day trips are only available during May, June and September and only available with an advance booking and good water level conditions.

10. Plan d’eau des Ferreols, Digne-les-Bains

Located on the Route de Nice, close to the city centre, the waters of Ferréols has free parking and is accessible by public transport or by bicycle through a cycle track.

The space is divided into two lakes, one for boating, fishing and watersports and the other purely for swimming, which is free. Lifeguards monitor from 11:00 to 19:00 every day during the summer. Two amphibious chairs are also available for disabled visitors.

Mini golf, trampolines, a bouncy castle and pedaloes are available on weekends in April, May & September & every day during high season in summer.

You also have free access to a climbing wall, table tennis, outdoor fitness equipment, beach volleyball and trial and dirt jump Mountain bike areas.

There is a snack bar on site.
