Orange Alert Storm Warning Across Parts of Provence
Storm rains set to intensify in the Gard region over this afternoon
This afternoon and evening, thunderstorms will erupt over the eastern Gard and the Vaucluse, continuing across the west of Provence in the evening towards Bouches-du-Rhone.
It is predicted that these storms will be violent and accompanied by a strong electrical activity. High levels of rainfall can also be expected going into tonight and through to Tuesday. Expected totals are 100-150 mm, and up to 200 mm for sustained thunderstorms.
After last weekends flooding along the French Riviera, residents are urged to take note of the warning issued. Information on the France Meteo website has the following advice.
- With the approach of a storm, take precautions to shelter sensitive objects in the wind.
- Do not shelter under trees.
- Avoid walking in forests [and mountain walks].
- Avoid using the telephone and electrical appliances.
- Check weather and travel conditions before starting any journey and be very careful.
- Observe in particular any detours that have been implemented.
- Do not, in any case, by foot or by car, travel on a submerged road.
- In typically floodplains, try to get your belongings to a safe area and monitor rising water.
