This 17th century palais in charming Saint Remy de Provence is a historic-meets-contemporary sanctuary for lovers of all things gourmet.

With 7 individually designed rooms. This small but distinctive hotel will not disappoint. Set in the centre of the old village, the hotel and its seven spacious suites are a mid-century design odyssey. The noble Almeran family's former home, original features have been charmingly mixed in the interiors with furniture by ClassiCon designers Eileen Gray and Konstantin Grcic.

The ancient building is also home to an innovative nouveau Mediterranean restaurant and private dining space led by Benoit Fauci, who ran the kitchen of the Michelin-star restaurant Les Chênes Verts, in Tourtour. With pristine natural surroundings and an address close to to 34 wine appellations and important historical sites, such as the ancient royal city Les-Baux-de-Provence and Avignon, Hôtel d’Almeran adds a new layer of luxury to the heart of an already refined and stunning Saint-Rémy.

4. Amphitheatre Hotel

Housed inside a beautiful old stone building, this hotel is comfortably furnished and decorated in warm inviting colours.

The garden and patio are overflowing with bright fragrant flowers and guests are welcome to relax there with a book or a refreshing drink.

Rooms are bright, spacious and modern with comfortable furniture and some have a balcony or terrace. All are equipped with air-conditioning, a mini bar and satellite TV. Folding beds can be provided for children on request and dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.

Breakfast is a typically French affair of freshly baked bread and croissants, homemade jams, fruit juices, and tea or coffee. There are also savoury options available such as meat and cheese. Breakfast can be taken in the comfort of the dining room or enjoyed out on the terrace.

Originally a 16th century Jesuit seminary, the Cloitre Saint Louis is set in a peaceful cloister within Avignon's old town.
