Bargeme Castle, Bargeme

A medieval castle overlooking the village of Bargeme

featured in Sights & sites

Sadly, this castle is not open to the public but there is enough of it on view to get a good feel of what it must have looked like when it was in use.

The views from here are spectacular as the village is the highest in the Var region, sitting at 1,097 metres above sea level.

The castle and village is listed as a world heritage site and has won the accolade of France's most beautiful village in the past.

Getting to this remote village is really only possible by car up the windy mountain roads.
