Fete du Riz - Rice Festival
A celebration of Camargue rice in the city of Arles
The shores of the Rhone river in the region of Camargue yield high-quality rice, well-known all over the world. Every September, as the rice is harvested, the city of Arles celebrates local Camargue rice.
Colourful parades take over the streets of the centre of Arles, lead by the "ambassadrice du riz", chosen among local rice growers. She arrives by boat to the Quai Saint-Pierre, before heading to the local church where the rice is blessed.
During the weekend, there are parades with live music on the Boulevard des Lices, between the Trinquetaille neighbourhood and the boulevard Victor-Hugo.
