A public garden where some of the greatest painters of our time painted

featured in Sights & sites

Located on the outskirts of Aix, not far from the Atelier Cezanne is the Terrain des Peintres.

It has been preserved as a public space thanks to its amazing views of the Montagne Sainte Victoire and that artist Paul Cézanne often painted here in the latter part of his life.

You can walk up the path to a view point that overlooks the surrounding countryside and mountains and take a look a reproductions of famous paintings that were created here, a little like an open air museum.

For those who want to extend the walk, it is possible to reach the Oppidum d'Entremont, located about 1 km, through the path Chemin de la Marguerite.

The Oppidum d'Entremont is one of the most beautiful pre-Roman settlement in Provence, which sheltered a Salyens community, Celto-Ligurians who had settled here before the Romans arrived.

Worth knowing

Take a trip back down into town to visit the Atelier Cezanne, the small studio where he spent his time in Aix.

Visitor comments

  • "After Cezanne's studio, walk up the hill (as he did daily) to this corner where he painted every day overlooking the city and the mountain. There are some samples of his paintings with introductions here so you can compare his paintings to the views you are seeing. Great walk." - Trip Advisor
  • "Nice, clean park about 1km north of Atelier Cezanne. Definitely worth the hike up to it. We were the only people in the park, surprisingly. It provides excellent views of Mt Ste Victoire and the landscaping/foliage are kept up well" - Trip Advisor
  • "Worth the short climb up to it A tranquil small space with the classic view of Mt St Victoire the inspiration for over 100 paintings by Cezanne's" - Trip Advisor
