Lac de Castillon, Gorges du Verdon

A large artificial lake on the edge of the Gorges du Verdon

featured in Waterparks

This large lake is around 8 kilometres long and covers an area of almost 500 hectares. It's the largest lake in the region next to the Lake at Saint Croix.

The lake is accessible for swimming and has a number of lifeguard patrolled beaches.

On top of this there are three watersports centres offering paddle boarding, pedaloes, canoes, sailing and motor boats.

Worth knowing

Completed in 1948 after 20 years of work, the Castillon dam formed Lake Castillon. 95m high and 200m wide, you can admire from the road around the lake a breathtaking view of the Verdon downstream. During your trip, discover this impressive dam where you can see the largest sundial in the world drawn on its side. Produced for EDF and inaugurated in 2009, the work covers 13000m².
