Fete de la Lavande - Lavender Celebration, Sault
Held annually on August 15th in the town of Sault
A celebrations of all things lavender. Join the local community at the hippodrome horse track, Le Deffends, where an entire lavender field is planted in the middle of the track.
The fields around the village of Sault are fragrant with the recently-harvested lavender and it is time to celebrate. At 10:00, don't miss the lavender-cutting championship, where professional lavender cutters will harvest with the scythe. There is also a lavender-cutting contest, with a scythe, for non-professionals.
All day long there is music and dancing with Provencal folk groups. There are also horse and buggy parades and rides, a market with lavender growers, farm products, a book fair and an art show, a crafts village, a horse show, and a closing concert in Provencal.
At 12:30, a country lunch is served under the oak trees. Book lunch at the Tourism Office in Sault. Lots of fun for children, with pony rides and displays of beehives.
