Ventoux Red Bull Road Rage Cancelled
Mont Ventoux competition cancelled for security reasons
The Mont Ventoux Red Bull Road Rage has been cancelled by local authorities due to security reasons a week before the event was scheduled.
This weekend the site of Mont Ventoux was due to hold their first Red Bull Road Rage competition, an extreme downhill on-road bike competition but authorities have denied permission for the event to go ahead based on security concerns.
The prefecture of Vaucluse issued an unfavourable opinion for holding the Ventoux Red Bull Road Rage just one week before the vent was due to happen. "Risks linked to the safety of the riders" was the reason given by the prefecture.
64 extreme cyclists were due to be descending the Mont Ventoux at speeds over 100 km/h.
Red Bull have expressed their disappointment with the late announcement and are hoping the event may get permission for a future date.
For those due to participate or spectate, a small consolation, the Ventoux Night Session is still happening on Saturday night.
