Visitors to the Palais des Papes this autumn will be able to have a totally new and free experience, thanks to an augmented reality ipad.

The company behind it, Histovery, have already successfully launched similar systems in a number of historic monuments and locations. Their video below gives you an idea of what to expect.

On arrival at the Palais des Papes this , you'll buy your entry ticket as normal and then be given a 'HistoPad' free of charge.

"The HistoPad is a digital tablet that allows you to take control of your visit in an interactive, playful and personalised way. The visitor can interact with the collections displayed and the rooms visited: they can point the tablet in any direction, and ‘look through’ the screen at the reconstructed version of where they are standing. This is a novel use of Augmented Reality, that allows the HistoPad to be a literal window on the past. Scanning interactive objects, reveals their function and their story to visitors. The HistoPad therefore makes it possible to make invisible things visible, and to handle virtual artefacts as if they were real".

You'll be able to use the new technology from the date of the next European Heritage days, which starts on 16th September 2017.
