According to readings taken at the official weather station of the Cote d'Azur, there has been an increase of 2.5 degrees on the seasonal average temperatures.

The weather station in Nice has recorded the highest temperatures since it opened in 1943. After a slightly 'iffy' summer in July and in to August, with a lot of rain and unstable temperatures, September started to show signs of an Indian Summer and now that we are into October the Cote d'Azur has been enjoying fantastic weather.

Anne Schwartz from Météo France Nice, has pointed out that this situation is not specific to the coastal strip of the Alpes-Maritimes. Greater differences in seasonal temperatures (+3 degrees) have been recorded to the south and east of France, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, Rhone Valley and Alsace.

The explanation for the change given by Météo France: "Between a high pressure system on Eastern Europe and a stagnant low pressure system over the Atlantic" they say "circulate warm air masses from the Mediterranean and North Africa ".

And the temperatures are set to remain the same for the rest of the week and at least into the start of November. However from next week the cool of the Autumn will kick in and temperatures will slowly decline into the winter months.

Perhaps this weekend is the last chance to enjoy the summer weather on the French Riviera!
