Domaine La Gontarde, Visan

Vineyard with a long history under new ownership

Updated

Breathing new life into the Domaine, Dutch owners Geert Claeys and Mieke Willaert are cultivating 50 hectares, including 17 hectares of vines between 40 and 65 years of age.

The Domaine La Gontarde has a long history as reflected in the old cellars and a water well dating from the 15th century. In 1920 the area of 150 hectares was divided into 3 parts for reasons of succession.

The harvest is done strictly by hand and grapes are then sorted again by hand, resulting in only high quality grapes ending up in the tank. At Domaine La Gontarde they also have 3 hectares of truffle oaks, 150 olive trees and lavender fields to perfect the Provencal décor.

Their first production of wine in 2010 was very promising.
