Peplum Film Festival

Roman-themed films screened outdoors at the Théâtre Antique d'Arles

featured in Events calendar Updated

Come and enjoy some classic Roman movies on the big screen, at the Théâtre Antique in Arles.

The film screenings take place as part of the main Arelate Festival, Arles' big summer Roman spectacle.

Each summer Roman-themed films are shown with an introduction by a film specialist who will regale you with anecdotes and secrets of filming.

Before each screening, you can enjoy an apéro, and afterwards there will be some small theatre show or some music to wrap up the evening.

Tickets can be bought at the Arelate Festival show in Place de la Republique or at the Théâtre Antique on the evening of the screening.

History

The festival was first held in 1987 thanks to a collaboration between the tourist office and some other bodies, who were keen to create a festival centred on the theme of Antiquity, drawing on the city of Arles, which has such Roman heritage. The festival is put together every year by the Peplum association.
