Around 12,000 little yellow rubber ducks are expected to take to the waters of the Sorgue on Saturday in the 3rd Edition of the Duck Race.

Previously held in Quimper in the north west and then in Vendome south west of Paris, the decision to host this years event in L'Isle sur la Sorgue was mainly due to the popularity of this Provencal town.

"We chose L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue because of its tourist attraction, the configuration of the river that runs through the city center and the expertise of the city's big events," says Cedric Alfosea, President of the Roundtable for the Provence-Côte d'Azur.

The event is sponsored by the magician Dani Lary and will include three rounds of racing, the first 2 rounds of 6000 ducks being the qualifiers, with 2000 ducks from each round going through to the final. The final will be held at around 17:00. The grand prize is then awarded to the winning duck...or the owner of the duck we should say, as the prize is a car!

The event will benefit two children's charities this year - “Les enfants de la Lune” et “La Vie pour Christie”. So make sure you have your duck at the ready or at the very least your cheering lungs!
