Transportation Company Uber Suspends UberPOP in France

Current licensing process cited as the reason for the suspension of the service

The American company has been faced with several set backs in recent weeks, including protests and strike action by taxi companies, two of their executives were taken into custody, and there have been some cases of violence against their drivers.

Launched in February 2014 UberPOP has already been banned in many cities in Europe. With this controversial activity anyone could become a driver without any special professional license.

However, today’s news doesn’t mean the suspension of UberX, Uber and UberVAN in France. All these services will continue to run as they are since they are much more regulated than UberPOP - only professional drivers with a professional license and 250 hours of training can become Uber drivers.

So although the unfair competition that taxi drivers face will be reduced with the suspension of this service, Uber will by no means disappear from France any time soon.
