Chateau Pesquie Vineyard, Mormoiron

A family run vineyard at the foot of Mont Ventoux

featured in Vineyards & estates Updated

This vineyard has been in the same family for three generations and saw the AOC Cotes du Ventoux appelation come into being back in 1973.

Now run by brothers Alexandre and Frédéric, the vineyard welcomes people to not only learn about and taste their wines, but the olive oil which is also grown here.

The Château Pesquié vineyards are located on clay and limestone gravel slopes. These soils offer a great diversity with a majority of limestone (from the Urgonian period), but also present various kinds of clays and a few sands which give a great complexity to the wines. The Ventoux area, especially around Mormoiron, provides an extreme geological variety. The vineyards are mostly planted in soil from the Quaternary and reinforced by the mineral wealth of the Cretaceous period. Ochres and clays with warm colors often contrast against the white limestone and offer breathtaking scenery.

The complexity of the wines from Château Pesquié is also a consequence of the numerous varietals of its vineyards (more than ten). The tradition of blending is a key in the Southern Rhone. Although the vineyards are located in the southern part of the valley, the altitude and the cooler climate of Mount Ventoux lend to the terroir Northen characteristics. The estate's two main grape varieties are Grenache, the king of the Southern Rhone and Syrah, the king of the Northern Rhone. The other varietals grown on the estate are mainly Cinsault, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Roussane, Viognier, Clairette, Chardonnay, etc

Visitor comments

  • "Excellent staff who speak great English. A very welcoming establishment. It is possible to taste all the wines and olive oil which they sell." - Trip Advisor
  • "We visited this Chateau for a welcome receptions. Not knowing much about Provence wineries, this was a wonderful surprise. I love french wines but these were exceptional. The tasting were wonderful and I loved the Chardonnay (and I not a big Chardonnay lover at all) and their Terrasses, a fabulous red." - Trip Advisor
  • "Beautiful grounds, very good wine. Reserve a picnic. You'll get a pamphlet (in English if you like) for a self-guided stroll around the vineyards. Afterwards you can do a tasting and they'll give you a seriously gourmet and overstuffed picnic basket and your choice of wines. You'll have a lot of privacy and a table on the lawn outside the chateau, under shade trees. Go hungry, great for a group/family, though many children will only like some of the food in the picnic." - Trip Advisor
