Arles Gehry Tower Building Permit Signed
Luma Project tower finally gets the green light
Back in 2008 Frank Gehry and Maja Hoffmann, of the Luma Foundation, presented their project for the development of fifteen hectares of derelict land in the centre of Arles - today 5 years on the project may finally see the opportunity to grow.
The ultra modern, yet five year old, project in Arles by Frank Gehry is centred around the Genry tower; a 56 metre melange of twisted aluminium and glass on a stone backbone.
The tower is set to be home of a dedicated contemporary art centre by the Luma Foundation.
Back in 2011 the National Commission for Historical Sites and Monuments rejected two of the five building permit requests, because the project sits over an ancient Roman cemetery and could have threatened Arles’ Unesco World Heritage classification.
On the 10th of July the building permit for the Gehry tower was signed.
Now all is left is the is for the 100 million Euros to be invested in the four years of construction the project will require.
