Summer Starts for Marseille Beaches
Two million people are expected on the 21 beaches around Marseille
The mayor of Marseille has officially opened the 21 Marseille beaches for the summer season, and is expecting some 2 million beach lovers to descend on the Mediterranean beaches over the summer.
However for the local authorities the beaches are no lounging matter.
Over 500 members of staff help keep the beaches safe and clean, with 11 aid stations manned by 70 lifeguards and another 70 security officers keep the beaches safe.
Furthermore 20,000 portable ashtrays will be available at the beaches to help keep litter at bay.
Water quality in the sea is closely monitored and can be viewed on-line along with live weather and sea temperature.
