Along this trail is a memorial for those killed in the Massacre of Merindol, in which hundreds or even thousands of Waldensians were massacred in 1545 for dissedent religious activities. The execution of one young man, a servant, might well have been the first example of execution by firing squad in Europe for causes of Ideology.

    Just outside the village of Gordes lies the archaeological remains of a Bronze age village. The Village des Bories dates back to around 2000BC. You can still see ancient sheep pens, stone beehive houses (bories) and bread ovens.
 
    This old Romanesque style church dates back to the 10th century and was modified in the 12th century. Its austere exterior matches very plain interior decor, very typical to the Romanesque style of the old ages.
 
    This museum exhibits photos, records and videos of life during the occupation of France, the resistance movement in the Vaucluse and pieces by poets, writers and artists.
 
    This castle houses the town hall of Gordes and a museum containing works by the painter Pol Mara, a Flemish artist who lived in Gordes.

Starting form the town hall (Marie) parking lot walk towards the centre of the village, then follow arrows to the 'Mur de la Peste' (Plague wall). Continue on the Grand-Rue in front of the Church. At the fountain go left onto rue du Chateau.
Continue on Chemin de la Pourtalette, then take Chemin de la Muscadelle, between the cultivated terraced fields. The road becomes a steep, pebbly trail, follow this over the top and continue straight on at the intersection to reach the Mur de la Peste.
Here, turn right and follow the wall that has been restored over a distance of 1.2km until the intersection near the DFCI water tank. Follow the trail to the right down towards the Calavon valley for about 500m and you will reach an intersection. Take the narrow trail on your left and go along a wall between the olive trees on your left and the almond trees, vineyards and cherry trees to your right. At the Colimbou intersection go straight over and when you reach the fork keep the same direction among the olive trees planted carefully on the terraced fields, then reach La Plantade.
Go right towards the village, once at the village continue on Rue Haute and reach the square with a washing well and cross, turn right and then continue on to Rue du Chateau and retrace your steps back to the Marie.
