There are a multitude of different concerts, exhibitions, events and things to see in Provence this July and since there's so much choice, we've picked our favourites to help you see the best of what's going on.

Music

For classical music lovers the biggest event of the month is the Festival d'Aix which runs for 21 days and includes opera, symphony concerts, youth orchestras and recitals from eminent soloists. Another big international event is Les Choregies d'Orange which runs on various dates in July & August.

Contemporary, eclectic and electronic fans shouldn't miss the Festival de Nimes, or if you prefer slightly smaller events consider Les Terrasses Music'Art Festival in Lauris or for a really dramatic setting head to the Pont du Gard for the Lives au Pont Festival or Les Art Festival in the castle courtyard of La Tour d'Aigues.

The last few days of the International guitar festival takes place in Lambsec on 1st and 2nd July and then on 3rd July is the Acoustic guitar festival in Salon de Provence. World music fans should check out the Festival des Nuits Blanches in Le Thoronet, Les Nuits du Sud near the Riviera or Les Suds a Arles. Jazz fans should head to Jazz Focus in Avignon, or to the Jazz Verdon festival or the annual Jazz Festival in Saint Remy. Find more music events by using the filters on our events calendar.

Le Tour de France

Stage 12 of the Tour de France arrives at Mont Ventoux on 14th July and it's going to be a huge spectacle. With thousands of people watching on the road sides, as the riders battle it out to the top of the mountain, you're guaranteed a great atmosphere and you might even get on TV where are audience of billions will be watching. The race starts on 2nd July and finishes in Paris on 24th July after 21 different stages.

Dance & performing arts

The biggest event of the month and one of the biggest performing arts festivals in the world is the Avignon Festival which takes places from the 6th to the 24th July. New on the scene this summer is the L.A. Dance Project which comes to Arles for the first time this year .They have set up as residents at the LUMA foundation where they will be based for the next three years. Over in Vaison la Romaine "Vaison Danses" is a festival that embraces many different types of dance, from contemporary to Latino and hip hop with various performances on throughout the month.

Art & Exhibitions

Three different exhibitions of Victor Vasarely's work are showing over the summer in Gordes, Aix and Avignon as well as exhibitions of Turner, Van Gogh and Camoin. Photography lovers should check out Les Rencontres d'Arles or Les Silences du Ventoux photo festival in Sault.
