Provencal wine comes from the region of Provence. The romans called the area 'provincia nostra' (our provence), giving the region its name. Just south of the Alps it was the first Roman provence outside of Italy. Wine has been produced in this region for over 2500 years, dating back to the Greek foundation of Marseille in 600BC. Today, the region is most famous for its Rose wine, however, Wine critic Tom Stevenson beleives the region is best know for its spicy, full flavoured red wines.
