Sault

An attractive hilltop town not far from Mont Ventoux

featured in Towns & Villages Updated

Sault is not only an attractive place to visit in its own right, but it's also a great place for cyclists to base themselves as it lies just to the south east of Mont Ventoux.

Sitting on a band of rock at an altitude of 750 metres, you can enjoy the views of plenty of lavender fields below in the Val de Sault, or wander around the streets, old stone houses and squares.

History & Culture in [locality]

The village was fortified in the middle ages, and there's still an old castle here that you can visit.

Human activity here stretches back to prehistoric times. A 12th century church towers above the surrounding buildings, and you'll notice how tall some of these houses are as you wander around. In times gone by, animals were housed in the bottom storey of the house, with families living in the floors above.
